Women go through menopause at a certain point in their lives, which is a normal condition that women will experience as they age. The term menopause is used to describe the changes a woman goes through when she stops her menstruation cycle or the end of her reproductive period. This happens when women’s ovaries gradually begin to make less estrogen, ultimately leading to the end of monthly egg releases. As a result, menstruation stops. 

Women typically experience menopause after the age of 40 but the onset of symptoms varies for everybody. While some women experience menopause early, some may experience it at a later age. However, women who experience menopause before the age of 40 are considered to have premature menopause. Some women may also experience early menopause due to several causes such as surgery or extensive damage to their ovaries. In other words, menopause is defined as the absence of menstrual periods for 12 consecutive months. It is a gradual process and women are often more conscious of their bodies during this time as they go through hormonal changes. 

So, how will you know if you are about to undergo menopause? Below are some of the symptoms that one may experience during menopause: 

Irregular menstruation

     An irregular period is the most common symptom of menopause. Irregularity in menstruation differs from one woman to another. Some may have a heavier period, while others may just be spotting. Some may start having a period more often while others may have it after a year or more. 

Hot flashes and night sweats

           Another sign of menopause is the experience of hot flashes during the night or even during the daytime. This occurs due to fluctuating estrogen levels in your body brought on by the menopausal stage. Red blotches may also appear in your upper body along with night sweats and palpitations. 

Mood swings

        Many women who begin their premenopausal stage may experience hormonal changes, which results in mood swings. They may easily get irritated or stressed out for minor reasons. Some may even experience anxiety or depression. This sudden change in a woman’s behavior occurs because of the change of hormones during the menopausal stage.

Insomnia

Another common issue during the menopausal stage is insomnia. Generally, women are no longer able to sleep through the night as their senses become so sensitive that they may wake up by the slightest sound. In addition, some women may experience insomnia due to night sweats and hot flashes as mentioned before. 

Sexual life turns 90 degrees

Some women who are approaching menopause may find that their sex drive has decreased and that they are no longer able to become aroused easily.
