Laparoscopy is surgery performed using minimally invasive techniques. Patients can be evaluated (Diagnostic Laparascopy) for specific gynecologic complaints. Also, suspected or known pathology (for example, pelvic masses or ovarian cyst) can be treated (Operative Laparascopy). Through small incisions, a camera and instruments can be inserted into the abdomen and pelvis. Surgery through these small incisions allow for less post-operative pain, a shorter hospital stay, and a fast return to normal activities.
Here are common gynecologic complaints or indications that can be evaluated and treated with Laparascopy:
- Pelvic Pain
- Painful intercourse
- Pelvic masses, ovarian cysts
- Ectopic pregnancy
- Uterine fibroids
More complex and challenging surgery may require the assistance of the da Vinci Robot. This added component provides superior visualization, and even more precise instrumentation.
